| Day
1... I will meet you as you get off the plane in San Francisco.
As you come through the door into the lounge area, just look for
me, I will be holding a sign which will have on it Nigel Turner.
We shall then proceed to the hotel, where you will have already
been checked in. Later that evening after you have had an opportunity
to freshen up after your long trip... we shall meet up in my room
for a drink and the opportunity to get to know one another.
Days
2 and 3... Our next two days will be spent on the Big Sur
Coast. We shall leave the San Francisco area after breakfast for
the three hour journey south. During the afternoon of our first
day we shall visit the small town of Carmel, home to numerous
fine art photography galleries that feature the work of some of
the most accomplished landscape photographers in the world. The
next day will be spent along Highway One capturing the wonderful
seascapes of this very rugged coastline. Amongst the many highlights
will be visits to Julia Phiffer Burns State
Park where a waterfall drops into the ocean. Garrapata State Park
will be our sunset location where the ragging surf smashes into
sea stacks as the rock glow pink.
Days
4, 5, 6 and 7... Our
next four nights will be in Oakhurst, a small town in the foothills
of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. From here we shall explore the
delights of world famous Yosemite National Park. This is the time
of year when the park is at its best with thunderous waterfalls
feeding the bolder strewn Merced River as it flows
gracefully through Yosemite Valley. Thousands of Dogwood trees
with their flowering white leaves abound at this time of year.
Great scenic's of the huge granite formations such as Half Dome,
El Capitan and the Three Brothers from various meadows will spoil
us for choice. We shall also be able to spend time at the Mariposa
grove of Giant Sequoia. These trees are amongst some of the tallest
in the world. Hopefully, we shall also be able to visit
Glacier Point for the sunset shot of Half Dome, however this depends
on whether the road has been reopened after the winter snows have
melted.
Days
8 and 9... Our next two nights will be spent in Bridgeport,
where we shall visit both Bodie Ghost Town and Mono Lake. Bodie
is the largest ghost town in the United States with dozens of
old wooden buildings and mines. Bodie was once a bustling town,
with a population of over 10,000 people. We shall also visit Mono
Lake on the Sunday morning with it ‘Tufa’ formations.
Days
10, 11 , 12 and 13... Death valley is situated in the northern
most part of the Mojave Desert and is one of the most remote and
baron regions of the USA. However, this does not mean to say that
is is uninteresting or colourful! Our first night there we shall
shoot the sand dunes from the roadside as the setting sun dances
across the dunes and the Funeral Mountains. Sunrises and early
mornings will find us at such places as Badwater,
which is the lowest point in the western Hemisphere. Great reflections
of the Panamint Mountains form in the small pool of water that
is Badwater. Later that morning we shall visit the Devil’s
Golf Course, where jagged salt formations stretch as far as the
eye can see. Late afternoon will see us back at the sand dunes
where you will have the opportunity to to hike into the dunes.
Another sunrise will be spent at Zabriski Point with its colourful
yellow and golden badlands and the formation known as Manley Beacon.
After sunrise you will have the chance to hike across these badlands
to the base of Manly Beacon and continue out and exit at Golden
Canyon.
Artist palette, again a very colourful location will be visited
on a number of times under different lighting conditions. Another
sunset will be at the Salt Flats with their uplifted shapes and
patterns. Our last night will be in Las Vegas, prior to your return
to the UK.
