May 4th ~ May 18th 2011.
There is probably nowhere on Earth where you will find such an extreme diversity in the landscape, in such a relatively small area as this Holiday Workshop offers… it really is quite extraodinary!
Lush green meadows with the ever graceful Merced river flowing freely over and around huge boulders, along with massive granite icons such as El Capitan and Half Dome that rise majestically from the valley floor. Elegant stands of California Black Oaks and Dogwoods in their early springtime colours. Of course, we mustn’t forget the thunderous waterfalls that tumble hundreds of feet or the fabulous views as the setting sun strike formations of monolithic proportions, we can only come to realise that we truly are spoilt for choice of subjects in Yosemite National Park.
Less than one hundred miles from Yosemite lies the historical ghost town of Bodie, dating back to the California Gold Rush. Frozen in time and suspended in motion Bodie provides us images of days gone past. Old cars, wagons and hundreds of various mining implements litter the surrounding area. I will also show you how to photograph the wonderful subjects through the windows of the buildings, as these images are rarely seen by others.
Our next stop will be in and around the Alabama Hills and Whitney Portal, home of Mt. Whitney.. the tallest peak in the lower forty eight States at 14, 496 ft. All around this area are weather polished boulders of all shapes and sizes. You won’t believe the images we will get from this area. This is also a great location for capturing the granduer of the area in the panoramic format and I will show you how to accomplish this.
During our time in Death Valley we shall visit the Mesquite Sand Dunes on a number of occasions at both sunrise and sunset, where the ripples and shadows dance across the ever changing dunes in total silence. Another of our sunrise and early morning shoots will find us at Zabriski Point with it rolling badlands and Manley Beacon standing out against the Panamint Mountains in the background. Artist Palette, the Salt Pans and numerous other subjects await our eager attentions during our four days in Death Valley. Begins in San Francisco and ends in Las Vegas.
